How do you know breast cancer?
“On December 6, 2005, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. At the time, I was 15, immature, and just your average difficult teenager in high school–I had no idea what was in store for me. I watched my mom go through 6 months of chemotherapy, another 2 months of radiation, and a double mastectomy. I would sit at the dinner table staring at her bald head asking myself if it was really happening. I was never able to accept the fact she had cancer because she refused to play the pity card and did everything the same, even working throughout the 6 months of chemo. Five years later, she’s in remission and cancer free! Her positivity and resilience through her treatment showed me how far a good attitude and a strong mind can take you–and save you.”
