Sketchy Workshop #1 Recap, Photos

Thank you to everyone who came to our first Sketchy Workshop at Lester’s Wednesday night. We were just about sold out (one seat off!) and the energy in the room was fantastic. Compared to the frenzy of our parties, where many hundreds of people turn out, the workshop vibe was calm and intimate. It was awesome to see everyone drawing all night, some of whom hadn’t picked up a colored pencil in years.

We also want to thank artist JeanPaul Mallozzi, who led the workshop, for sharing his prodigious talent and skill; Pearl for providing everyone who attended with a beautiful set of art supplies; Lester’s for hosting us and discounting the bar all night; and Joey’s for dishing out their All-City gourmet pizza. (Check out our video, “Throwing Pizza With Chef Ivo”, to see how the magic happens.)

This was the first of many Sketchy Workshops, so stay tuned! Until next time, you can click on the image below to see all of our photos from the workshop on the Sketchy Miami Facebook page.

We are excited to announce our first Sketchy Workshop, to be held at Lester’s cafe in Wynwood on Wednesday, September 21 (SOON!) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The beginner-friendly workshop will include two hours of instruction in portrait drawing by artist JeanPaul Mallozzi, a painter and illustrator in residence at the Bakehouse Art Complex who you may have met at Sketchy Party #2.

While the main purpose of the workshop is to sharpen your drawing skills, it is also an opportunity to wind down in the middle of the week with a group of good people. To keep things casual, everyone who attends will get a free glass of wine and two slices of Joey’s perfect pizza. After the two-hour drawing lesson, you are welcome to hang out with us at Lester’s, which will be offering a 15% discount on drinks all night.

As for art supplies, our friends at Pearl South Miami have you covered. You don’t have to bring anything but a working hand, and you get to take the supplies home.

The workshop costs $30 for one person to attend ($45 for two) and will be capped at 30 seats. To secure a spot, buy your ticket using the PayPal button below.

For those of you who didn’t meet JeanPaul at Sketchy Party #2, we recently paid him a visit, video camera in tow, in his BAC studio. Here you will see him do magical things with a pencil.

And that’s why we enlisted him to head a drawing workshop. Now here’s everything I said above boiled down to the essentials.

What: Sketchy Workshop #1 with JeanPaul Mallozzi
Where: Lester’s (2519 N.W. Second Avenue, Miami, 33127)
When: Wednesday, September 21
Time: 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Perks: Free glass of wine; two slices of Joey’s pizza; 15% off all drinks; art-supply package to take home
